Improvisation Techniques for Your Classroom

Improv is more than a cultural phenomenon and form of entertainment. It is also an incredible team building and creative problem-solving tool. This course will focus on using appropriate improvisation techniques in the classroom, including ice breakers, team-building and games. A great course for any classroom including humanities and STEAM, participants will leave with a tool box of improv games and a stronger sense of their own improv skills.

In this 3-hour course, participants will:

  • Gain an understanding of how improvisation techniques will help with classroom management
  • Learn age-appropriate improvisation games for students
  • Strengthen their own improvisation skills with group exercises
  • Learn improv philosophies such as “Yes, and…”

Technical Theatre: Production Team Lighting Design

This is a workshop for directors and producers to work with their student technical teams under the guidance of Carter Irwin. Following an overview of lighting practices, Proctors professionals will work with you and your students to interpret scenes and design lighting that appropriately conveys the moods and messages intended. Teacher and student teams will create lighting plots to take back to their schools to implement for their upcoming productions. This workshop is intended for secondary theater teachers and/or drama club advisors and their middle-school or high-school students.

In this 3-hour course, participants will:

  • Learn about common lighting instruments
  • Gain skills in focusing lights, spotlight utilization and basic light board connectivity
  • Strengthen their understanding of the relationship between light color and costume color

Theatre Design and Overcoming Challenges

This workshop offers a brief opportunity for area theater teachers to gather and discuss shows we’ve done and those we’re doing, and offer tips of how to address specific challenging elements to enhance the learning and performance experience for our students.
