It’s Time to Dance! With Broadway’s Freddy Ramirez

If you want to dance and learn about what is going to make you stand out in an audition, come join Freddy. Take your training to the next level and treat yourself (or someone else) by working in a small group setting with a Broadway professional. In these classes, you’ll sharpen your dance and audition skills while adding choreography to your repertoire. Freddy will work to increase your flexibility and confidence and teach you the art of acting the choreography, all while strengthening and toning your body. Freddy has performed all over the world and choreographed many shows and can teach students what will get them hired. 

BROADWAY JAZZ  

This class focuses on technique, foundation of jazz, performance, musicality and bringing your own self to your work. The class begins with a set modern/jazz warm-up, touching on the styles of Horton, Limon, Luigi, Fosse, Cole-and focuses on a combination of isolations, basic ballet and jazz technique and presentation. Through the warm-up and across the floor exercises, students will develop their technique as a foundation. Choreography will be taught in each class to familiarize students with diverse styles. The atmosphere is slow to medium paced, positive, professional and challenging, to promote self-confidence and allow each student to develop their performance skills in an encouraging environment. 

Dates: Saturdays, Sept. 9 – Dec. 16, 2023 (no classes Nov. 18 or Nov. 25)  
Time: 10 a.m.- 11 a.m.

BROADWAY TAP  

These classes are designed to help students build solid technique in an upbeat and positive atmosphere. Each class begins with a thorough warm-up engaging the brain and body while focusing on coordination, rhythm, weight shift and articulation. Students will cover a wide range of tap vocabulary from shuffles and flaps to double maxi ford pullbacks and triple wing time steps. Students will learn the footwork to fine-tune and build on the skills they already possess. An ending combination will focus on the technique that was worked on throughout the class and keeping clear sounds, smooth transitions and musicality. The combinations will range in a variety of tap styles featured in Broadway shows. 

Dates: Saturdays, Sept. 9 – Dec. 16, 2023 (no classes Nov. 18 or Nov. 25)

Through the warm-up and across the floor exercises, students will develop their technique as a foundation. New choreography will be taught in each class to familiarize students with diverse styles. The atmosphere is fast paced, positive, professional and challenging, to promote self-confidence, and allow each student to develop their performance skills in an encouraging environment. 

Dates: Saturdays, Sept. 9 – Dec. 16, 2023 (no classes Nov. 18 or Nov. 25) 
Time: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

Experience: Intermediate/Advanced  

BALLET TUESDAYS  

The class is fun and dynamic within an encouraging and challenging atmosphere. The class will provide a welcoming and friendly environment, with individualized instruction and attention, systematically designed to promote progress for each dancer. 

This class will provide a strong basis in ballet technique, correct body alignment and posture, an introduction to French ballet terminology as well as ballet classroom etiquette for students of all dance styles. This class is suitable for the novice dancer with very little previous experience, or for the student who wants to continue to develop and refine their technique. Ballet slippers are required.   

Dates: Tuesdays, Sept. 5 – Dec. 12, 2023 (no classes Oct. 31, Nov. 14, Nov. 21 or Nov. 28)

Also offering in-person and virtual private lessons.  Freddy can work one-on-one with students to address any technique, style or choreographic concerns. That includes tap, ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop and even choreograph a piece specifically for the student. 

FREDDY RAMIREZ (Choreographer) is a Bronx, NY born and raised performer, choreographer and teacher. He began dancing at Broadway Dance Center & STEPS in NYC where he focused his energy on studying all aspects of dance including Tap, Contemporary, Street Jazz, Ballet, & Modern. His training led him to begin his professional career as a core member and eventually a principal dancer for In Forward Motion modern dance company which debuted works from Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, and Colin Connor to name a few. He has performed in music videos and industrials in the U.S. and his dancing led him to Italy where he was featured in Tango!  

In the musical theatre world Freddy has performed on Broadway in Grease! and in numerous Equity productions of West Side Story as Bernardo (including 250th Anniversary productions), Cabaret as Victor, Gypsy as L.A., Aida, Miss Saigon, Man of La Mancha, Evita as the featured Tango Dancer & Fosseto name a few; and he has toured in the European Touring Company of A Chorus Line and the 1st U.S. National Touring Companies of Grease! & Peter Pan. 

Expanding his art into choreography, Freddy has choreographed works performed in Germany, Italy and here in the US. He is an Associate Artist at Capital Repertory Theatre, the Assistant Artistic Director at the Northeast Ballet Company and has created choreography for both.  

He most recently choreographed the world premieres of Naked Influence and Some People Hear Thunder, as well as The Irish and How They Got That Way, Full Monty, She Loves Me, Mamma Mia, Camelot, A Christmas Story, Gypsy and the Secret Garden at Capital Repertory Theatre.  Other choreography credits include Guys & Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Damn Yankees, Carousel, Bye Bye Birdie and Little Shop of Horrors for numerous Union regional and repertory theatres. Freddy has also been the choreographer for the School of the Performing Arts at Proctors, where he created the choreography for All Shook Up, Aida, Pippin, Les Misérables, RENT, Into the Woods & The Prom.
