Acting Out!

Let your star shine! This beginner camp is perfect for students ready to learn basic techniques of acting. From projecting voices to trusting instincts, students will gain the self-confidence needed to take to the stage and wow friends and family in a final performance at the end of the week. Students can take one or both weeks.

Acting Intensive

Dates & Locations:

Join us for a series of master classes culminating in preparing an audition monologue. This amazing week, led by theatre industry professionals, will give students individualized guidance and the opportunity to hone their skills in including:

-Scene and partner work from classic theatre pieces

-Character development

-Speech and movement for the stage

-Monologues

-Acting technique

Students must have previous performance experience or participated in Acting Intensive, Broadway Camp, Broadway Jr, or Summer Stage Young Acting Company. Showcases on Fridays of the program. Space is limited but your potential isn’t!

Summer Stage Young Acting Company

Dates: July 22–Aug 9 | 9a.m.–4 p.m. | M–F
Ages: 10–19
Tuition: $800

Performances: Aug 9–11, preview performance Aug 8

Young actors interested in honing skills and performing on theREP’s professional stage are invited to audition for the School of the Performing Arts at theREP’s 2019 Summer Stage Young Acting Company. The actors selected, as well as professional actors, will make up the company to bring five winning plays from the Young Playwright Contest to life. All young acting company members will receive daily classes in acting, speech for the stage, character development and stage movement from professionals in the field and will work alongside professional actors, with a professional director and design/production team, during rehearsals and performances.

An audition breakdown will be released on or by May 3, 2019 and will be posted at school.proctors.org

  1. Prepare a memorized, 1-minute, monologue.

Acting for the Camera

Dates: July 15–26 | 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
Ages: 14–18
Tuition: $400 ($25 off for previous School of the Performing Arts students, must call to receive discount)
Location: Guild Room at Proctors
Experience: Intermediate

In this two-week program, students will learn skills needed to be in front of the camera and what happens behind the camera. Understanding both sides informs work and sharpens skills. The first week will focus on acting technique, learning how to take direction and hitting your mark for filming. The second week students will pair up with filmmaking teams and create the final project.

Class Clown

Love to make friends and family laugh? Embrace the stage in an acting class this summer! Students will learn to communicate with the audience with pure body and emotion. Through ensemble building games students will build self-confidence, stage presence, creativity and more! At the end of the week, students will show how they can be a strong scene partner in a 30-minute showcase.

Improv Anywhere!

Dates: July 22–26 | 1 p.m.–4:30 p.m.

Experience: Introductory to Intermediate

Do you love creating stories? Want to learn to train your brain to be more spontaneous? This class is for you! Students will learn the secrets to great improvisation. Have no fear—in this class, not everything needs to be laugh out loud funny. At the end of the week, students will show how they can be a strong scene partner in a 30-minute showcase.

Everything but the Song

Dates: July 29–Aug 2 | 9 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
Ages: 10–13

Experience: Introductory to Intermediate

Not interested in singing but love everything else about performing? From monologues to spoken poetry and hilarious scenes, this class will bring out the star in everyone. Embrace the drama and comedy and learn how to act with your voice, body and mind—with an end of the week showcase!

Stage Combat

Dates: July 29–Aug 2 | 1 p.m.–4:30 p.m.
Ages: 10–13
Tuition: $175

Experience: Intermediate

Learn to fight like your favorite action stars and characters! This course will safely teach stage combat techniques including hand to hand combat, fight choreography, basic stage weapon tips and how to fall. Have fun learning how to make it look real and show off your skills in a showcase at end of the week!
