Behind the scenes with HSMTA

Students rehearse opening and closing numbers for the High School Musical Theatre Awards, HSMTA, during the second day of rehearsals Wednesday, May 17, 2017.

Students from 16 schools around the Capital Region began preparation for the High School Musical Theatre Awards, HSMTA, at Proctors this week.

Musical Director Peter Darling wasted no time with the group — working and re-working vocals for the opening and closing numbers of the show.

Choreographer Gregory Theodore Marsh picked up where Darling left off, leading students in dance steps to make the show pop.

“I just want each and every one of those kids to have a good time and take their moment on this great and wonderful stage,” said director Steven Yuhasz.

The High School Musical Theatre Awards are a celebration of student theatre, stressing the importance of arts in education.

Tickets are still available for the show, which runs Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m at Proctors.
